Strengthening Adoptive Families for Parents and Preteens (7-12): This is a family skills workshop for parents and their preteens (ages 7-12) focusing on communication, empathy, bonding, and positive limit setting in a fun game format. Participants will work with both peers and family. The workshop is designed for one parent and one child to work together. Presenters Lynn Moyer, Ph.D., M. Ed. and Wadine Toliaferro, MHS, are on the staff of Children and Families First. ***An afternoon session is offered for parents and teens (ages 12+). If parents are unsure about which age group is appropriate for their child, please call 302-571-8784.Session I A - Strengthening Adoptive Families (PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED)

Education is Armor: Kids & Drug Misues in 2012: This is an adult workshop focusing on "street drugs," including use, abuse, addiction (family dynamics), and current trends. Presenter Joshua Ellow, MS, CCDP-D, is the Clinical Supervisor at Brandywine Counseling & Community Services and has been contributing to the field of counseling and self-development since 2005.Session I B - Education is Armor : Kids & Drug Abuse/Misuse (Pre-registration not required)

Emotion & Motion: Sensory Regulation & Integration: A whole-listic approach to addressing children's social-emotional development while respecting their sensory processing needs. Elements of Dr. Greenspan's DIR (Developmental, Individual-difference, Relationship-based) theory will be discussed, including sensory processing system information (the systems: what they are, what they do, and why they are important to all of us). A number of sensory regulation strategies will be presented. Kristina Stroh, Co-founder and Executive Director of All The Difference, Inc. and Jaime Tae, OTR/L, also from All The Difference, is an occupational therapist who has worked with children for 11 years are the workshop's presenters. Adoption 101: This is a workshop for people considering adopting. An overview of adoption basics: types of adoption, preparation and home study, issues to consider and life as an adoptive family for people considering adopting in Delaware. Mary Jo Wolfe, BSN, and president of AFIS (Adoptive Families with Information & Support) has been an adoptive parent for 20 years. Karen Watchorn, BA in Sociology and AFIS Board member is a former foster parent and current adoptive parent. Session II C - Adoption 101 (Pre-registration not required)
