Court of Chancery Publishes Guidelines on Attorney Civility

Today, the Delaware Court of Chancery published Guidelines on Attorney Civility intended to preserve the integrity and effectiveness of legal proceedings and practice before the Court, including by maintaining the inveterate tradition of collegiality and professionalism that remains a hallmark of the Chancery bar.

The guidelines express the Court’s expectation that attorneys practicing before the Delaware Court of Chancery will adhere to the highest standards of civility, professionalism, and respect in all proceedings, including depositions, hearings, written communications, and interactions with opposing counsel and the Court.



On April 27, 2026, the Honorable Timothy J. Fox, Jr., joined the Court of Chancery as Magistrate in Chancery. Although Magistrate Fox will handle matters throughout the State of Delaware, his Chambers will be located in the Leonard L. Williams Justice Center in Wilmington. Prior to joining the bench, Magistrate Fox served for 12 years as a trial attorney with the Office of the U.S. Trustee at the U.S. Department of Justice in Wilmington, Delaware, with responsibilities in all matters arising under the United States Bankruptcy Code, primarily Chapter 11 cases.

The Delaware Court of Chancery is proud to announce its fourth annual Legal Art Contest, open to Delaware students in grades 7 through 12. This year’s prompt is: “Equity: What does it mean to you?” The art contest, which is being conducted in partnership with the Court of Chancery Historical Society, invites students to contemplate equity in modern society. Students may submit an essay, poem, visual art, or musical composition.

As of February 24, 2026, the Register in Chancery for New Castle County will be relocated from the 11th floor to the 7th floor of the Leonard L. Williams Justice Center in Wilmington. The Register in Chancery is responsible for managing court filings and records and assists litigants and members of the public in court business, including in-person at its office in each of Delaware’s three counties.

The Register of Wills is responsible for assisting individuals and attorneys with the probate process and maintains records relating to estates. The Register of Wills is a clerk of the Court of Chancery and has an office in each county of the state.
